Breathwork refers to any type of breathing exercises or techniques. People often perform them to improve mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. During breathwork you intentionally change your breathing pattern. There are many forms of breathwork therapy that involve breathing in a conscious and systematic way. Many people find breathwork promotes deep relaxation or leaves them feeling energized.

PRANAYAMA

Pranayama is the 4th limb of the eightfold path of yoga. Prana is the vital life force and energy that runs through our body. This beautiful energy is constantly flowing through us, and through all living beings. Prana (breath) sustaining the body; Yama (control) translates as "to extend or draw out." Together mean breath control (or extension). The breath is the only function in the body that reveals your unconscious emotional, mental and physical patterns. We can heal and transform these patterns once we choose to recognise them.

BREATHWORK

The amount of oxygen that we inhale through our breathing, influences the amount of energy that is released into our body cells. On a molecular level, this progresses via various chemical and physiological processes. Breathing is the easiest and most instrumental part of the autonomic nervous system to control and navigate. In fact, the way you breathe strongly affects the chemical and physiological activities in your body. Throughout the years, Wim Hof has developed special breathing exertions that keep his body in optimal condition and in complete control in the most extreme conditions. The breathing technique is first and foremost premised on inhaling deeply and exhaling without any use of force!

ABOUT BREATH

  • When you breathe in, you inhale oxygen (O₂) (and other molecules and gases), when you breathe out, you exhale (CO₂) and other molecules and gases). That’s respiration.

  • When you breathe in, your heart rate goes up a bit. When you breathe out, your heart rate goes down a bit. This is the basic principle of respiration, but it is also important for metabolism.

  • When you breathe in O₂, it binds to red blood cells from your lungs. Those blood cells transport the O₂ to tissue and organ cells thanks to the pumping action of your heart. The oxygen is needed by the mitochondria in the cells of your body as a means of energy, like a fire.

  • To slow down the breath, brings more vital energy in the body. Ageing - metabolism - breathing = all is connected. Positive - Inhalation / negative - exhalation / transcendent - retention. Longer exhalation or slow down breath, calm the CNS, limbic system, emotions (impulses coming hypothalamus - mid.brain).

  • Slowing down your breathing and extending your exhale to be longer than your inhale will have a relaxing effect on the body. It causes an increase in CO2 carbon dioxide levels and also stimulates the production of nitric oxide, which dilates blood vessels !!!!(vasodilation). Vasodilation reduces blood pressure and increases blood flow. Only then we have all the nourishment. Better circulation in the brain.

Correct breath technique, Pranayama, Breathwork can heal all kind diseases.

  • Hyperventilation - Bhástrika, Kapalabhátí (increase O2, low CO2)

  • Hypoventilation - all pranayama (increase CO2, and create better absorption of O2)

Types of pranayama:

  • Judisthiza pranayama - Mantra + Pranayama + Chakra alliation (given by teacher)
